HELENA STEFURSKA

I was deported to Turkulu in Russia on 13 April 1940. There, I worked in a wool factory, where the work was very hard. The salary was so little that it was not sufficient to buy food. After two months, I ran away to Stanisławowo in Poland. However, I did not hide for a long time because after three months some Ukrainians working for the NKVD denounced me. Considered as a spy, they immediately took me to prison. At the beginning, for a period of three months, I was detained at the prison in Stanisławowo. Later, they deported me to Russia, where I was put in prisons in Kiev, Moscow, Syzere, Tashkent, and Turkulu. From there, I was taken to a labor camp at Zingota, and [there] I worked at the construction site.

After the amnesty on 28 August 1941, I left for Katekurganu [Karakurganu], where I again worked in the school. In November, I moved to Buzuluk, where in December I joined the Army. From Buzulu they sent me to Jangijul [Jangiyul], and 28 March I went abroad to Persia. Currently, I am in Iraq.

10 March 1943.
