Dear Professor!

In accordance with the wish expressed by the Central Archives of Modern Records and yourself, I would like to inform you that in addition to me and my father, my mother was helping as well. This help involved baking additional loaves of bread which were passed on to the Jews.

She also prepared various vegetables which the Jews collected at night.

My older sister Daniela helped out as well. As a nurse in the Home Army, she had the opportunity to obtain medicine and dressings which we delivered to the Jews who were in need (hiding in a bunker in the forest).

As for the details, the bunker was divided into three separate underground rooms connected by corridors.

An additional corridor with a hidden exit was connected to each room.

The whole area was covered by a thick forest, and the bunker was located on a hill. The boggy terrain around it was practically inaccessible. Empty spots on top of the bunker were masked with bushes and tree seedlings.

The Jews were armed, they had a dozen or so machine guns, one light machine gun, some grenades and ammunition.

We helped them selflessly, acting solely on the basis of humanitarian motives, while risking our own lives and the lives of our families.

I apologize for a delayed response – I was abroad.

Yours sincerely,

Zbysław Raczkiewicz
