Cannoneer Wiesław Lipiński, 18 years old, student.

2. Date and circumstances of arrest:

I was arrested and deported to Kazakhstan on 13 April 1940. Deported instead of my father who had been previously arrested.

3. Name of the collective farm:

Budyonny, Urlitepsk [Uspen?] region, Pavlodar Oblast (slow deportation).

4. Description of the camp:

Lowland area, buildings—mud huts, housing conditions very bad. Hygiene—none.

5. Composition of deportees:

Polish nationality, families arrested in the homeland. High level of intelligence, moral standard too. Good relations.

6. Life on the collective farm:

Agricultural work, bad working conditions, quotas in percentages, pay in kind—minimal, very bad meals, own clothes. Camaraderie and cultural life very good.

7. Conduct of the NKVD towards the Poles:

Very bad.

8. Medical assistance:

None. No hospitals, low mortality.

9. Communication with the homeland:

Postal communication with family and friends.

10. Released:

After the amnesty, I joined the army with the help of the Polish station in Pavlodar.
