On 22 November 1993 in Warsaw Jerzy Świerkula (MA), prosecutor delegated to the Main Commission for the Investigation of Crimes Against the Polish Nation, proceeding in accordance with the provisions of Article 2 of the Act of 6 April 1984 with subsequent amendments (Journal of Laws of 1991, No. 45, item 195) and Article 129 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, reporting personally, interviewed the person named below as a witness. Having been advised of the criminal liability for making false statements, the witness confirmed with her own signature that she had been informed of this liability (Article 172 of the Code of Criminal Procedure). Having been advised of her right to remain silent (Article 166, paragraph 1 of the Code of Criminal Procedure), the witness testified as follows:

I would like to give an account of the aid my family offered to Jews who were persecuted during the occupation in Sadowne, which led to [my family’s] death at the hands of the Nazi occupiers.
During the occupation my grandparents Leon and Marianna Lubkiewicz owned a bakery in Sadowne. My mother’s brother Stefan Lubkiewicz also worked at this bakery. On 13 January 1943 they were all shot by the German gendarmerie.
It was common knowledge that Jews hiding from [deportation to] the ghetto were among those purchasing bread at my grandparents’ bakery. That fateful day the gendarmes stopped a Jewess in the street who bought bread from my grandparents, a fact which she disclosed. The gendarmes came to the bakery and arrested my grandparents, Marianna and Leon Lubkiewicz, as well as my uncle Stefan. They were questioned on the spot, then led into the street and shot near the bakery. My uncle Stefan Tomaszewski, resident of Sadowne, Kościuszki Street (Siedlce voivodeship), witnessed this tragic event. The Jewess was shot with my grandparents and uncle Stefan.
They were buried together in one pit on the orders of the gendarmes. Only a few days later my family exhumed the murdered and moved them to the cemetery in Sadowne.
I don’t know anything regarding the Jewess murdered in the abovementioned circumstances. I also have no personal details [of] the gendarmes from Sadowne who participated in the execution.
My entire testimony is based on information passed on by my family members.
