My education during the occupation

I finished elementary school during the occupation and started attending a private middle school. It of course took on an official name of an agricultural and gardening school, like all the middle schools in Warsaw. We were learning basic subjects like botany, soil science etc., and also forbidden subjects. We were using only our notes, which had to be so minuscule that they could be easily destroyed in case of inspection. We owe a lot to our professors for their dedication and the work they did. The secret classes were the most enjoyable. We were eagerly learning geography and history and listening to interesting lectures, while executions were taking place in the streets. We could see the military police from our windows, their helmets with swastikas and their rifles at the ready. Our school was one of the lucky ones that were not denounced, but the course of our education was interrupted by the Warsaw Uprising. Our school was completely destroyed. I sadly don’t know anything about my fellow students.
