STEFANIA KAJAK, ANIELA OSIPOWSKA

Warsaw, 6 December 1945. Acting investigating judge Halina Wereńko came with Aniela Osipowska, residing at Słowackiego Street 20, flat 20 (Żoliborz) and Stefania Kajak, residing at Słowackiego Street 20, flat 21, to the property at Okopowa Street 59, where she carried out an inspection and made a description of the area situated at the back of said property, which was pointed to by Aniela Osipowska and Stefania Kajak as the site of an execution of Poles on 1 September 1944, and about which Eugenia Drozdowska testified on 3 December 1945. Kajak and Osipowska – as they explained – were not present during the execution, but they visited that place many times with Drozdowska and learned from her the details pertaining to the execution site.

During the inspection, the following has been stated:

In the back of the house at Okopowa Street 59, there is a square closed on one side by the wall of the Jewish Cemetery, in which there is a breach providing access to the cemetery premises. At the time of the inspection the premises are covered with a layer of snow 1.5–2 centimeters thick. There is a sewage hole. According to the information obtained, on 1 September 1944 Poles were being executed with a shot to the back of the head in the vicinity of that hole, by the chimney. After some snow had been removed from said spot, traces of ash and bones about 3–150 millimeters long were found on the ground. There are no bullet marks on the walls of the nearby building. There is a visible trace of the path on which, according to the information provided by, among others, Kajak and Osipowska, the execution of the Poles and later the burning of their corpses took place on 1 September 1944. Since the ground is covered with snow, there are no traces of ash visible or at least discernible when turning the ground. On the spot marked with a letter g on the plan, there are rusted pots, saucepans, and a few forks and spoons, which were supposedly left by the executed Poles.

At this the report was closed.
